Cape Schools earn Distinction in Performance honor, plus national, local awards
2009 was a year of outstanding achievement for Cape Girardeau Public Schools, with awards and recognition coming from national, state, regional and local organizations. It looks like 2010 is going to be a banner year, too!
In December the district earned the Distinction in Performance honor from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Only 319 districts in the state qualified for the honor. “To qualify for Distinction in Performance, a school district must be achieving at a high level or making consistent progress at all grade levels. School districts work hard to achieve this recognition,” said Stan Johnson, assistant commissioner for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The district recently learned that five of its 2010 Central High School graduates were named National Merit Commended Scholars or Semi-finalists! This achievement comes on the heels of two of our 2009 graduates placing among the top 100 graduates in the State of Missouri, and one of our graduates being named a National Merit Finalist and Presidential Scholar.
