Visual Arts Program engages, cultivates and motivates our children

When a kindergarten child in the Cape Girardeau Public School District picks up a crayon to begin her first art project, she takes the initial step in a long journey of discovery, perceiving and creativity.  Visual art classes are taught in kindergarten through twelfth grade at Cape Public Schools, and the faculty believes that art education cultivates the whole child, gradually building many kinds of literacy.

According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, “The arts cultivate the direct experience of the senses… A comprehensive, articulated arts education program also engages students in a process that helps them develop the self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation and self-motivation necessary for success in life.”

There are many forms of art-- dance, music, theatre, and visual arts—and each contributes a unique dimension to the richness of the total learning environment.  Presented here for your enjoyment are student visual art projects from our elementary and secondary campuses.  Enjoy!
