FROM DR. JAMES WELKER, SUPERINTENDENT
What a great time to be a Tiger! This year we are celebrating the 100th graduating class of Cape Central High School. We are extremely proud of this historical milestone. Cape Girardeau Public Schools has a tradition of excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics and we look forward with great anticipation for future accomplishments.
In addition to the Centennial Celebration planned this year, we are very excited about the construction resulting from the Bond Issue. For the first time in the history of our school district, we have our own high school stadium. The dream of building this facility was obviously developed many years prior and we wish to thank all who have been involved with making the dream come true. We also have been able to make major improvements to our elementary schools and anxiously await the completion of a new Franklin Elementary. Additional projects that are planned to start this year include: new offices and breezeway at the Middle School, a library at the Junior High, and a classroom addition and performance hall at the High School. Again, thanks to the Cape Girardeau community for approving the bond issue that has allowed us to make these improvements. A special thanks also to the Cape Public Schools Foundation for its support of the high school performance hall and stadium.
As always, I want to thank all of our staff for their hours of dedication. The rich tradition and pride of our school programs are possible because of their commitment and hard work.
In addition, thank you parents and members of the community for your support of Cape Public Schools. It takes a team effort to ensure the success of our students. I encourage you to attend as many school activities as possible. Help support our students as they gain valuable experiences that will last a life-time.
As we progress through this school year, let us continue to build pride in our school district and community. It truly is a “Great Time to be a Central Tiger!”
