JE counselor wins top honors

CAPE COUNSELOR WINS TOP AWARD

A Cape Girardeau Public Schools (CGPS) counselor has been named elementary counselor of the year. Jefferson Elementary’s (JE) Olivia Carter received the honor from the Missouri School Counselor Association.

Mrs. Carter is entering her eighth year as a school counselor and was named the Southeast Missouri School Counselor Association’s Elementary Counselor of the Year last school year.  She is in her fourth year as counselor at Jefferson, a place she holds dear to her heart.

“JE is magical because of the teamwork.  Every teacher goes above and beyond to meet student needs, and they have really embraced my role,” said Carter.  “I couldn’t have the comprehensive school counseling program that I do without the support of our amazing students, families, and staff.”

JE’s staff informed their beloved colleague of her latest honor via a post on the school’s Facebook page.
