An estimated 4000 football fans were on hand for the opening game at Cape Central High School’s new stadium Friday, September 2, 2011. The stadium seats 5,000 and the home section was filled to capacity. It was the first time in the school’s 100-year history that a football game was played on its own turf. The new stadium was one of many projects made possible by the $40 million bond issue approved by voters in April 2010. At half-time Festus led 14-7, but by the time the clock ran down the Tiger’s fortunes had reversed and the new, high-tech scoreboard read Tigers 21, Festus 20.
